Our Basement Remodel: Hydronic Radiant Tubing

The hydronic radiant tubing should be fully installed by the end of today. Our Vancouver basement remodel is well on its way to being completed, and we couldn’t be happier with the quality of work being displayed.

As mentioned in yesterday’s blog, we had some delays in getting the required material to start on the radiant flooring portion of our remodel. Once we had received the radiant insulation however, the project has been moving along at a very fast pace. The actual tubing for the hot water to run through is nearing completion, and should be finished in the next couple of hours. Once the tubing is installed, the floor is ready for inspection, along with the first concrete pour.

Ryan from Naikoon said that we will be having two concrete pours for our radiant floor. The first pour is to keep everything in place, and the second coat is the finished layer. Once the first coat has been poured and cured, the radiant heat will be turned on to the maximum temperature allowed. This is to allow the concrete to crack under the heat, allowing for the second pour to fill in and cover the existing cracks. I am told this is the best way to minimize cracks in your finished coat of concrete, as the radiant heating can get rather hot.
